Iraq? Vietnam? When will we learn? By Benjamin Smith
When will the United States, “(the Great Experiment of Liberty and Freedom)” learn from its historical mistakes? I have no idea.
It’s time for the left to grow up. Their self-destructive-apologetic-mentality is leading the war in the Middle East down the same road of celebrated failure… a failure that identically parallels the American defeat in Vietnam. The defeat in Vietnam was not a military defeat. The American defeat in Vietnam has been unanimously credited to the popular opinion and Medias of the American people. The Tet offensive was the last hell-marry of the NVA and VC against the allied forces of America and South Vietnam. The North Vietnamese knew that they could not defeat the Americans with military force. The Tet offensive was meant to ignite an uprising of communist sympathizers in South Vietnam. The communist movement believed that the South Vietnamese wanted communism but they had not had the opportunity to embrace it yet. This proved to be false and became an Ideology catastrophe for North Vietnam. The people of South Vietnam did not embrace the intrusion of their communist neighbors. This was the final blow that broke the military campaign of Communism in South East Asia. With Communism on the run under the devastating power of the American forces, the light at the end of the tunnel was finally in reach. The military defeat of Communism during the Tet offensive was not portrayed as a victory by the American media, even as congress and military commanders assured that our enemy was on their knees. (The Tet Offensive had a devastating loss of 54,000 North Vietnamese/ VC troops in comparison to 11,000 South Vietnamese and 2,000 American troops.) As congress began asking for more troops to secure territory and put the final bullet in North Vietnam, Leftist Americans screamed their anger and demanded that the South Vietnamese military take control of the situation. We withdrew. Ah yes, the withdrawal… With American troops vacating the area… South Vietnam had no chance against their atheist neighbors. Communism swept through South East Asia like a devastating plague where it claimed the lives of (upwards) 3,000,000 people.
We are still in South Korea…
What if we were still in South Vietnam…?
