There are so many things wrong with the U.S. I want to know why people don't see it. There are so many issues that we have to fix. Like the ban on Gay Marriage. I am straight but some of my closest friends are homosexual. What right do you have to deny people marriage? I know the arguments. "It's a crime against God." "It's an abomination." Blah, blah blah. How about you stop using the Bible as an excuse! According to the Bible, after I was raped, my assailant was supposed to pay my father in silver and marry me. According to the Bible, I am not supposed to have any rights since I am a woman. Only my father or husband could own land and make decisions. According to the Bible, it's okay to own slaves. Here's some good questions. As a parent, would you force your daughters to marry men that violated them in the most unforgivable way? Would you accept a pay-off from her rapist? No? What would you do? I bet you would do your best to see that her rapist was thrown in jail for the rest of his life. Because that's what I would do. As husbands, would you want your wife, the mother of your children, to lose everything to your brother or next male relative if you die? No, you would want her to have everything she needed to care for herself and your children without having to beg for it. And don't even get me started on Slavery. It didn't end after the Civil War. It still happens. Only it's sex slaves instead of house slaves. It took people with a lot of courage to go against the people who used the Bible as an excuse to deny people basic human rights. To say that things needed to change. That's why African-Americans and women can own property, vote, and have the final decisions in all aspects of their lives. That's why women have the right to choose. More on the right to choose later. We have no right to keep homosexuals from marriage. Just like our past in fighting for civil liberties, it is time to do it again. Forget religion and think of it like this; what if it were different? What if the majority were homosexuals and the minority were heterosexuals? What if heterosexual marriage were illegal? You wouldn't want them denying you the right to marry.
