 A Congressman invited me to the Lincoln Dinner back in 96. Rep Sonny Bono was the keynote speaker. I have to say it was one of the most entertaining nights I've ever spent. Sonny was absolutely hilarious. It was one of his last speeches sadly. However, he did tell a story about a friend of his who asked him what was the difference between a Republican and a Democrat. The story went pretty much like this: I ran into two old friends yesterday, Jack and Danny. I said: "Hey jack! How's life treating you?" "Well Sonny, not too bad! You remember I opened my own business 7 years ago right? Well it's been a rough road to say the least! I went bankrupt twice, lost my house, the kids and my wife all had to do without for a long time. My wife had to drive this crappy car that kept breaking down, my kids had to do without the cool clothes at school, we lived in a small apartment and nearly drove us all crazy. But, the last year or two things have really turned around! I'm finally making some money. I got my wife a brand new Beamer, I can pay for both my kids to go to college now and I'm thinking of finally getting the fishing boat I always wanted! We might even be able to take a family vacation finally. We've had it really tough but, all that hard work and doing without all those years are finally starting to pay off!" Sonny said "That's great Jack! I'm really happy for you!" Next: "Hey Danny! How's life treating you?" "Well Sonny, things have been really great the last 7 years working at the factory. It's been good steady work. No one in my family has had to do without. But now, the factory is going to cut my hours because they are having some trouble. So, I won't be making as much this year as I have the last 7." Sonny said "No problem Danny, don't you worry." Sonny turned over to Jack: "Hey Jack! You may want to hold off on that boat and the vacation. Sorry you sweated it out all those years but, Danny isn't doing so well right now. I'm going to take a large portion of the money you're making and give it to Danny because he's not making as much as he was at his factory job." Of course Jack doesn't mind! "It's Patriotic." Says O'Biden "It's the neighborly thing to do." Says Obama. "It's COMMUNISM" says Chuck!!
