Recently I was asked a very good question..."Deep down do you think they could actually accept a western democratic philosopy or do you think they will fall into the norm of hatred of the US and scream for Jihad?" I firmly believe that in time...emphasis on time...that the Iraqi population would come to accept a western democratic philosophy. They, of course, would add their own style to it, just like every country that practices democracy does. Change is a matter of adapting to a new environment. It is like pulling teeth to get one individual to change...just imagine how hard it will be to get an entire country to change everything they have ever known. As they learn to accept the democracy there will still be radical factions that still subscribe to the hatred of the US just like their are radical factions in the US that believe the Middle East should be turned into a parking lot. We as a country have a duty to provide suffering people a chance to taste freedom and when we leave... if they decide to go back to a dictatorship... then we should have no control over them.
