Description:
Senator Obama picked Senator Biden to be VP
Small Change
OFFLINE
Yesterday Senator Barack Obama picked Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware for his Vice-presidential pick.  There are 2 questions this pick sparks:  Why Biden? and Why not Hillary Clinton?  We’ve already heard from political analysts that Biden fills voids that Obama has:  appeal to Catholics; appeal to white, blue collar workers and lack of foreign policy experience.

Another reason not discussed is selfish arrogance.  Senator Obama and many Democrats have suggested that Senator John McCain, the Republican candidate for president, would be a third term of President George W. Bush.  It would seem if they had the greater good of the country in mind, defeating McCain so there is not third term of Bush, then Hillary would be the better pick for VP. So the next question, why not Hillary?, begs to be answered.

Polls show that 20-28% of Senator Hillary Clinton’s supporters will vote for McCain.  This is primarily because many of her supporters believe she was attacked unjustly by the media during the primaries.  As this observation is true, some of her supporters attribute those unjust attacks to sexism.  This is not true.  Nevertheless, Senator Biden’s selection does not appease this group that is probably just as pro-woman and/or feminist as it is Democrat.

Further, this Vice-presidential pick confirms that Barack Obama does not believe in his “change” message because Biden has been in Congress since 1972—longer than McCain.  He does not believe in “party unity” because picking Hillary would mean her supporters would be on board and help ensure a Democrat victory--after years of Bush, this country greatly needs this.  Finally, Obama does not put the country before his own ambitions and peace of mind because it has been alluded to the fact that Obama would be concerned about former President Bill Clinton’s “hanging around the White House.”  It seems Barack would rather lose the presidency—and therefore have McCain be president and all that this could mean—than win the presidency (getting the “country back on track”--Obama and Biden’s words) and deal with the Clintons.

For all his speeches about “change” and saving the country from McCain, Obama’s selection of Biden as VP confirms he is a self-serving, smug suit who represents politics as usual—definitely not the change the country desperately needs.
