Have you ever known someone that talks about politics, or shares their political views and just sounds dumb whenever they do? It’s just total ignorance leaving their mouth every time it is opened. I hear it all the time. I’m done with putting up with it. I just tell them to shut-up now every time someone does this.
I see it all the time in music, television, and the newspapers. Just today I was reading the newest issue of my high school newspaper and I’m reading an article in the Opinion section titled “Change we can hope for: what we can expect in twenty-ten.” The article is about a columnist who gives his opinion on what the next decade will bring in technology, social things, and politics. It was interesting until I got to the ‘Politics’ section. This is when he turned off of his optimistic, absorbing flow and showed his true ignorance. A single sentence that went like this, “However, to keep themselves in power, Republicans will eventually embrace the ideas of homosexual marriage and universal health care, knowing it’s the only way to get back into the mainstream and even have a chance to silence Obama and the Democrats.” Does he not know that the whole ideology of the Republican Party is conservatism? That means not changing. It means that Republicans aren’t going to just give in because they “know” it’s the only way into power. You don’t give in, you don’t change; you don’t go by what the people want, you go by what they need. The Republican Party isn’t going to change their ideas by popularity.
He then goes on to quote Bob Dylan about how we need to change with the times. Why in the world would anyone care about what celebrities have to say about politics? CNN idolizes celebrities’ political views all the time, and it is annoying. The people in Hollywood don’t know anymore about politics then a junior high kid that listens to Glenn Beck on his way to school(That’s not a bad thing, I did the same, and still do). Quoting someone on politics who doesn’t read about politics, take an interest in them and gets all of their information from CNN, doesn’t really show intelligence. Read up, get your own ideas and stop stealing others, and then come talk to me.
Another one that I see is in Hip-Hop/Rap music. Ice Cube says in a song, “Bush runs s***like Saddam Hussein.” This annoys me greatly every time I hear it. Not because I’m a conservative and “All Republicans like Bush,” but because he has no idea what he is talking about. The Bush Bashing has to be the dumbest tactic ever taken by liberals against right-wing politicians. Most of the people who say “Bush was an idiot,” either have no idea why they think he is an idiot, other than that their parents or friends don’t like him, or because he is on the opposite side of the line, or maybe just because he seems to be in the aversion of everyone else. I can tell you that I don’t know a lot about President Obama, or his policies. I know what he has done, and his political experience, but I don’t go around saying “Obama is an idiot.” I tell people that I don’t agree with what he has done (the little he has) or what he plans to do.
Those that go around saying who is smart and not, especially when they have no idea what they are talking about, show stupidity. President Obama is smarter than me, he knows more about politics than me and I’m sure he would win in a debate against me on any politic topic. I realize this and I admit it. Everyone needs to realize this, we need to know both sides of the story, and then come up with our own idea. That big phrase, “Think before you speak,” if we all did this, we all might be a little smarter.
