It has become clear that our newly elected president is choosing to implement a rather liberal agenda very quickly.  Of course if you have ever read anything I have written, you will know that I am a conservative.  Of course his agenda will not be pleasing to me, and it might in fact be pleasing to some liberals.  But I am writing to implore those more moderates of the democratic party and those independants who put this president in office, to "hold his feet to the fire".

His campaign did imply that he would govern with a more moderate hand, and in some cases I heard the words bipartisan used to describe him.  The word "change" became the mantra.  He promised to be a new kind of politician with a new kind of government; no more business as usual in Washington.  He said he would not have lobbiest on his staff.  He promised no more pork slipped into budgets.  He promised to go line by line and eliminate pork and he also promised to be very transparent about it.

 Now we see that he's thrown all of those promises out now that he's in office.  He' using the economy to justify his broken promises and to push through a very liberal agenda.  He told the American people that the "emergency stimulus" must pass immediately or it would be catastrophic for our country, when in fact most of that spending was written in as appropriations meaning that it was appropriated as future spending, not even in this year.  There is nothing about that kind of spending that can really be termed as emergency stimulus spending.  Then he had the audacity to go before the American people and scoff at the Republicans when he said something to the effect that stimulus is spending.  He's enjoying his cult like popularity and expecting his followers to remain ignorant.

As I said earlier, plenty of liberals may be very happy and therefore willing to turn a blind eye to his arrogance, broken promises, and downwrite dishonest "politics as usual" approach.

But I am asking all more moderate free thinkers to stand up and "just say no" to his radical agenda.  After all it is you who was deceived by his promises of a moderate hand and no more business as usual in Washington. 

Please understand I am not advocating an ugly, effort to hurt our president.  We had enough of that ugliness with our last president.  Obama is our president now and if we are unhappy with his agenda we need to speak out.  Those of you who voted for him have an obligation to the rest of us to hold him accountable to his promises.  Do not believe that he is unable to keep promises based on circumstances he inherited.  He knew exactly where this country was headed as he made all of his promises. 

It is certainly possible to still stand behind your vote, but please do not blindly accept everything he says and does.  Our country needs for us all to hold him accountable.
